Udoma confirms on Senate floor he hasn’t been part of PDP for about 7 years now

A ministerial nominee from Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udoma Udo Udoma has put to rest the misleading information circulated on the Internet that it was the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State that nominated him for minister through Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Udoma Udo Udoma, a former senator who represented Eket Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom State, appeared on the floor of the Senate, Tuesday, for screening, and said he had retired from partisan politics since he left the Senate in 2007.

“Truth is, I had retired to my professional and corporate life and to be honest, things have been going well with me. I ended up being chairman of two iconic institutions – the UAC and Union Bank. I have not been into partisan politics,” Udoma said on the floor of the Senate in response to a question from the Senate President, Bukola Saraki on what he has been doing since he left the Senate.

Udoma said he was surprised as well as honoured to be nominated to serve as minister by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Before now, the Government House Press Corps in Uyo have made several unsuccessful attempts to give credit to Governor Udom Emmanuel for the nomination of the former chief whip of the upper chamber as a minister.

Senators asked Udoma to bow and go, after he assured Nigerians that he was ready to “perform in that onerous task” if the Senate confirmed his nomination.

Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, the Akwa Ibom State minister designate has debunked the claims making the rounds that the Akwa Ibom State Governor,Udom Emmanuel nominated him to serve in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari as a minister.

Sen. Udoma expressed sadness about the story and described the story as a serious blackmail taken too far by unprincipled and desperate politicians in the state. In his words "Gov. Udom Emmanuel didn't nominate me. Mr. President having seen my credentials and records submitted to him by All Progressives Congress elders and stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State, felt I am qualified to serve in his government".
To further repel the rumour, Sen. reminded Akwa Ibom people to distance themselves from such ungodly story as he will officially declare his unalloyed support to President Buhari and all he stands for after his screening and confirmation as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Senate.
Speaking with our reporter on phone, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma expressed sadness on the idleness and blackmail tendencies amongst Akwa Ibom youth hence the reason for them to resort to insult and fabrication of lies against innocent citizens of the state.
He urged Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians to support President Buhari's administration and his Change programmes that are visible in all parts of the country.
